COMPLIANCE AND SECURITY

As virtualization gains in popularity, it also threatens corporate security, data privacy and compliance. The rapid adoption of virtual application and computing resources is so fluid, traditional network access and security models are being exposed as the weak link. It is becoming harder and harder in dynamic computing environment to know what data is being accessed and by whom.

OverDrive provides a complete and comprehensive solution that addresses compliance in virtual computing environments. With OverDrive, sophisticated network access and security models are defined and controlled via persisted business policies based on identified end-users and application, compute or storage resources.

As users move around the network, access and security policies are automatically deployed to their location ensuring they can only access systems and data they are authorized, no matter where they access the network. OverDrive polices control the underlying network access and security services (VPN, VLAN, ACLs and 802.1x services) depending on where and how users are attempting to access the network or resources on the network. These underlying access and security mechanisms are initiated, deployed and removed as required automatically by OverDrive depending on the situation.

OverDrive's integration with Active Directory and other LDAP enabled technologies allows for users to be explicitly identified by OverDrive as they logon to Active Directory or other authentication tools and the proper access and security policy is enforced based on that identity. If users are attempting to access the network via a switch, the policy may require a new VLAN instance to be created on the switch and the user’s port added to that VLAN as well as specific ACL setup to allow access to an identified network or application resource. When the session is over the VLAN and ACLs are removed automatically with OverDrive.

As OverDrive controls and governs the access and security models across the dynamic environments compliance is tracked and maintained at the policy level where a complete history of the policy is recorded and persisted. At any time compliance and audit reports can be run that tie every line of deployed configuration code from OverDrive managed devices (routers, switches, firewalls) back to the specific business policy that generated the code.

Any changes made to devices manually, outside of OverDrive, are noted and presented to the administrators where they can be accepted or rejected. If the change is accepted, the new configuration will be enrolled under the proper existing business policy. If the change is rejected, OverDrive will automatically push the previous version of configuration back to the device removing the change that was made and bringing the device and configuration settings back into compliance.

With these comprehensive and powerful features, OverDrive provides a complete solution for common compliance requirements and reporting regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, PCI-DSS as well as other commonly accepted best practice requirements such as ITIL.
