OverDrive supports a wide range of infrastructure deployment options based on various communication devices and vendor equipment including Cisco, 3Com and Juniper. LineSider's OverDrive technology can be ported and customized for most target platforms usually within 3-4 weeks for a modest fee. Please check with your LineSider sales representative for the full menu of supported devices and equipment.
In some cases OverDrive agents come integrated directly with the network device. The new line of 3Com ON (Open Network) routers and switches can be ordered and shipped directly with OverDrive agents pre-installed. In the case of Cisco or Juniper equipment that does not yet come with a pre-installed OverDrive agent, the device can still be managed and controlled through OverDrive, using our ‘remote’ agents and Policy Appliance.
These remote agents provide the same functionality and capabilities as the pre-installed agents and are deployed on a special, security-enhanced, network appliance, available through LineSider called a Policy Appliance. This network appliance can run up to 100 remote agents each managing an individual router or switch within an enterprise network.
OverDrive agent technology can be ordered in packs of 10, 50 or 100 depending upon the size and number of devices to be managed. One OverDrive agent is required for each deployed device that will be managed. Special pricing discounts apply for purchases exceeding 100 agents.
In a typical deployment scenario the OverDrive Policy Server interprets business-level policy commands and automatically pushes the configuration updates out to the appropriate agents where they are dynamically initiated on the device managed by the agent.
The OverDrive agents also provide real-time feedback to the administrative portal on the status of deployed policies, services and devices so the network engineers and administrators can easily control and administer the deployed network infrastructure.
A powerful workflow engine in the OverDrive Policy Server can be tailored to fit the process requirements of an IT organization. This feature ensures that changes cannot be made to production environments without going through an approval or sign-off process.
The workflow engine can also be used as a ‘gating’ method to ensure that policy changes are not mistakenly pushed out to a production network without authorization from an approved network engineer or administrator.
OverDrive also comes with a sophisticated API that allows OverDrive to share information with other critical network support tools and technologies. This API is based on a structured XML format that can be tailored to any structure.
